How many times have you sat at a restaurant and admired the skills of the waiter uncorking the bottle of wine you have ordered right in front of you as effortlessly as you unfolded the napkin on to your lap? Well, the first thing you need to know about uncorking bottles is that half the work is done by the corkscrew bottle opener. If you have one that is of the lever genre then your work will become even easier.
Most people are suspicious of fancy bottle openers because two out of three times they don’t work as well as the box in which they come. Therefore, there is enough reason for consumers to stick to the traditional lever corkscrew bottle opener. However, some of the fancy ones have decent functions which can be used easily by reading the instructions at the back of the box.
Don’t judge the quality of a bottle opener by its price because even if one of them cost you a couple of hundred dollars, they don’t guarantee perfect service.
How to use the lever corkscrew bottle opener:
You simply need to start by attaching the clamp of the opener to the neck of the bottle you want to unscrew. Once it is in place you need to wind down the metal spiral screw into the cork by pulling (or pushing) the lever.
Although you may not be able to see, but there are small levers at work in the opener which reduce the effort you need to put in while screwing the driver down.
Once the spiral driver is in, the driver must be pushed (or pulled) to uncork the bottle. You may now release the clamp. This clamp is placed on the neck of the bottle so that all the pushing and pulling does not displace the bottle and break it.
Advantage of using metal lever bottle openers
These metal lever corkscrew bottle openers are cheaper than the electronic ones. The former works as well as the more fancy ones that may cost up to $400. Because of additional leverage provided by the lever openers, individuals who suffer from back or arm pain don’t have to put in too much effort to open wine bottles.
The plastic openers are no good since they are not as strong as the metal ones. Therefore, don’t be fooled into buying one even if it is claimed to be as good as the metal opener.
There are many bottle openers which have an off center point. A lot of amateurs don’t understand the importance of centering the metal driver before screwing it in. Therefore, while pulling out sometimes, the cork may break inside your wine. The off center wine bottle openers make sure that the manual centering is perfect by default.
