I purchased one of these nifty gadgets for my husband, who has trouble with arthritis. We were so intrigued that we immediately ordered a second as a gift. The first one opened about 18 bottles before its innards were sprung. No longer anxious to give the other as a gift, we kept it, hoping that the first one was just a dud. The second one is not dead yet, but it doesn’t have long.

It feels hefty and solid in the hand, but the little-bitty wire spring inside is flimsy. Not one of my best purchases from amazon.com and I wouldn’t recommend this product if you expect it to last through more than a case of brew.

Interesting little gem which actually worked for 11 times ’til I got to the end of a 12 pack of water my wife makes me drink. Then it kind’ a sighed, gave a short springy gasp and died. After trying several attempts as resuscitation, I left its brushed aluminum body lay silently on the counter. I informed my well meaning spouse of the contraption’s early demise and blamed it on the water.

This opener is large, requires an electric plug and takes up counter space. But to my surprise it works amazingly well. There is a foil cutter that is stored in the base. The screw enters cleanly and seems to eliminate broken and shredded corks which can be frustrating. Hold the button again and the cork emerges from the device and drops out. I always liked my sturdy and simple stainless steel opener. But this turned out to be a keeper. It’s design is contemporary and clean, although it looks like it should do something more profound than just pull a cork. It’s also a conversation piece provoking smiles from guests. A pleasant surprise, highly recommended and especially so for a person who lacks hand or wrist strength.

I was surprised as to how well this item actually worked when we opened and started using it. I purchased this as a ‘filler’ gift for my wife for Christmas. Knowing that it was a gadjety gift I did not have high expecations. We used this for fun and found out how easy it is to use and how cleanly it removes the cork. It opens many bottles on one charge, although we have not yet tried to prove the box statement correct that it opens 30 bottles on one charge.

Good for a person who struggles with conventional wine openers and breaking corks.

The bonus wine chiller is stylish and functional.

We actually originally bought just the wine opener at a department store. As is usual with Amazon, this online price is waaay better than what we paid for the wine opener ALONE…I was told at a dinner party that Amazon had the wine opener for less than what I paid so we went online to order several of these as gifts and found we could get the wine chiller too for less!

Not only do these two wine lovers love the opener, but every time we use it in front of someone they fall in love and want one so it’s the perfect gift.

So…we ordered a few with the wine chiller and tried out the wine chiller as well and are equally as impressed! We had a dinner party and ran low on white wine. A fast chill provided by the wine chiller kept the dinner party flowing smoothly.

We had a 0 dollar wine opener that didn’t work nearly as impressive and easily as this one did. In fact, a wine opener just like this is still in wine catalogs for over 0. It may even be the same one…that’s the first place we saw it.

As for how it works…place it on the bottle, push the button, ZIP…it uncorks it for you.

TO REMOVE THE CORK: (totally easy) you just push the button in reverse and it pops it right out for you to remove it! Anyone who didn’t know this trick may not have read that part of the instructions as I could see that trying to remove it otherwise would be difficult. but it’s a cinch if you push that reverse button…even easier than removing it from a manual opener!

CONCLUSION: I love to drink wine but hate opening it and have broken enough corks in my day to realize I shouldn’t. This is uncorkage 101 at it’s finest whether you are a pro opener or as clumsy as me…looks impressive, is a major conversation piece once you use it, works in seconds with no brainpower needed, and the battery charge lasts so long that we even took it on a cruise and uncorked our wine during the whole trip perfectly and still came home and used it for a few weeks without having to recharge!

The wine chiller works just as well as the ones costing hundreds more. We are a lover of Oster and Amazon for this bargain set for our gift giving!! My parents, who have everything, are as hooked as we are on this and now gift it themselves to others.

And, more importantly, we’ve had it for a year now and it’s as good as new. Some more expensive wine openers we’ve had had more fragile pieces that didn’t hold up.

I bought the Metrokane Rabbit as a Christmas gift for my parents and it has since become the most indispensible item in our kitchen. We drink wine every night in our house, and have been through many a corkscrew, but absolutely nothing compares to this. I wish I could give this a higher rating but am hesitant to do so. I was excited to receive this package in the mail…I loved the idea of opening a bottle of wine after a long, difficult day with just the push of a button. I will start off by stating the foil cutter works very well and this device has a nice little cubby to keep the cutter when not in use. The inside workings seem to be made out of a cheap plastic. I have opened three bottles of wine I had in the fridge just to make sure before I gave a review. The first took at least five attempts to get the cork fully removed from the bottle. I decided I might not had charged the opener fully before use so I charged for 10 hours or more before using again. It did seem to work a little better the second and third time around but still requires two or three attempts for the cork to be removed or loosened from the bottle enough for me to then be able to remove the cork the rest of the way with my hand. Wish I could give this a better rating. I think this is a great idea but the one I purchased just does not seem to have enough power to remove the cork from the bottle properly.

This is a great conservation piece and a super easy way to open a bottle of your favorite wine, it comes with a removable foil cutter, once you cut the foil, put the opener on the top of the wine, basically you press the down arrow to remove the cork from the bottle, and press the upper arrow to release the cork from the opener, the whole process takes about 15 seconds, and it is easy, and simply to open a bottle of wine. I was very impressed with this product, I bought another one for my father, he loves it too.

Bought this because of the price but was not expecting much. It works great everytime. Simple to use and looks expensive. If you are planning to give this as a gift, know that it does not come in a nice box, just a plain cardboard one with no instructions.

It does come in a plain (ugly) cardboard box… but the cork puller itself looks like, and works like the spendier models.

This is the hands-down, best wine cork remover in the world. Inexpensive, small and lightweight, it never fails to pull out a cork, even ones that have dried up and stuck in the bottle’s necks. It lasts and lasts. I’ve had one since the 1970s and I’ve pulled a lot of corks with it over its lifetime.

I just adore this wine opener. I have gone through one refill already and am on my 2nd. That equals something like 200 bottles of wine or who knows how many. It’s a great opener. I never touch the other openers any more, and I have many. I was highly skeptical at first (will it be too noisy, too gimmicky? will the gas change the wine in some way?), but it is just so easy to use and you get a perfect opening every time. No cork problems. I love this thing. It also works well on the synthetic corks, though you have to push pretty hard to get the needle through those things.

I own several styles and more expensive corkscrews, but this one is effortless. The foil cutter takes seconds to perfectly cut, then a few more seconds and you’re pouring the wine. What really impressed me was the absolute ease of removing those usually challenging synthetic hard globs. You can barely tell the pucture site, so the more creative types could use real corks for wreaths, etc. The added bonus of an extra screw and a wine saver make this product an absolute fantastic buy. If it doesn’t hold up, I’ll write an addendum. My experience with their other products is also of high regard.

I received the Pinzon Penguin wine opener set today, which gave me an excuse to have some wine with dinner! Always a good thing. We picked a bottle and used the foil cutter. It’s very stylish and worked nicely. Then I dug the bottle opener itself out of the box; it’s in there quite tightly.

The directions are virtually non-existent, just some numbered pictures showing the steps. There are no written instructions, no warnings about synthetic corks. I put it on the bottle, squeezed, moved the lever down and up and…nothing. I looked at the “directions” and tried again. Nothing. The opener was stuck on the bottle and wouldn’t come off. My husband tried, and the lever jammed. He gently pulled it off the bottle. The cork, a synthetic one, was still fully in place and the opener was broken, with something rattling inside it. The lever won’t move more than an inch or two, so it’s useless after one attempt.

Since you don’t know until you remove the foil if the cork is real or rubber, having a wine opener that doesn’t work on synthetic ones is rather pointless. More and more wineries are distributing bottles with synthetic corks to prevent rotten corks from spoiling the wine, and the bottle I was opening wasn’t a cheap one. I grabbed my classic waiter’s corkscrew and bing bam boom, my bottle was open. At that point, we both needed a drink!!!

I did try the wine bottle stopper and it seems to have created a vacuum seal on the bottle but I am not convinced it really sucked the air out, which is key to preventing spoilage. It’s keeping a persistent fruit fly at bay and for now, that’s sufficient. I’ll use my VacuVin wine stopper when I want to really cork it, because after my experience with the opener, I honestly don’t trust it to work properly and am not willing to risk half a bottle of wine to find out.

As a side note, the person receiving this gift set has to figure out on his or her own what the foil remover and cork stopper are, because there’s absolutely nothing in the box to tell you. I’m a wine enthusiast so I knew what they were, but a novice who is choosing this item as an easy way to open and store wine would be completely in the dark.

I would recommend the rabbit-eared puller, the original that started this how-can-I-quickly-get-into-that-bottle-if-I-can’t-use-a-corkscrew craze. It’s worth the money and it does the job. There’s no shame in not being able to use a corkscrew, but there are better options than this!
